The 2004 season marks Holiday on Ice's
60th anniversary, a milestone that
is certainly worth celebrating as
Holiday on Ice returns to the UK with
its stunning new show 'Celebration'.
Audiences are invited to join a fantastic
party that combines all of the most
successful elements of the Holiday
on Ice tradition with the most spectacular
entertainment technology of today.
'Celebration' is a celebration of
life itself and a fantasy exploration
of the many different ways people
around the world express their joy,
at different times and in different
places.
In
his first venture as both creative
producer and choreographer, Robin
Cousins MBE invites us on a journey
to numerous destinations, time periods
and fantasy locations around the world,
to become part of the celebrations
that mean so much to everyone involved.
Opening at an Oscar-style awards ceremony, we then visit an elegant Viennese Debutante ball, followed by a Fifties-style, black & white TV spectacular. Then, we are carried away to join an 18-year-old girl in her birthday celebrations, before being transported, not in distance or time, but in scale, to the fairytale world of the Ugly Bug Ball. From here, we join the tropical glory of the Earth Day celebrations, emerging into the throbbing splendour of the Rio Carnival, complete with parade floats and dazzling costumes as the stunning climax to the first act.
The party goes on in Act 2, starting at a seventies disco, held at New York's famous Studio 54. Following several rousing disco classics, the mood takes on a more refined, sedate feel, at a majestic Bal du Masque (masked ball), featuring the stunning costumes of Roberto Rosello. The fantasy sequence, Lady of Dreams, features Michael Tyllesen, who is later whisked off to a lively pyjama party by four beautiful women. Finally, it is the turn of Holiday on Ice itself to celebrate 300 million visitors worldwide and 60 years of its spectacular ice shows, in a festival of lights.
All this is accompanied by a hugely eclectic musical programme, hand picked by Robin Cousins MBE himself, including variations on everything from Strauss to Kylie Minogue and from Daft Punk to Carly Simon. The costumes, designed by Roberto Rosello, promise to be among the most stunning and imaginative ever created. And last, but certainly not least, an internationally renowned cast of skaters has been assembled from around the globe.
With 'Celebration', Holiday on Ice combines 60 years' experience in ice entertainment with the very latest in sound, scenery and lighting technology to create a show that appeals to people of all ages and all walks of life.
